BIG THINGS AHEAD!

On Wednesday, President Obama will sign the new stimulus package....The package will be a boom to our industry and the direction we are moving. The stimulus package creates a new 30% tax credit for facilities and equipment used to manufacture renewable energy-generating components, such as solar panels. Finally, the actual makers--not just the end-users--get an break.

It gets better. Taxpayers purchasing PV systems can redeem the 30% tax credit as a cash grant if they do not have a sufficient tax liability to offset. Furthermore, the tax penalty for subsidized energy financing will be repealed.

Finally, the stimulus commits $11 billion to new technologies contributing to a more efficient energy grid, the "smart grid"; $6.3 billion for energy efficiency and conservation grants; and $2.5 billion to fund energy efficiency and renewable energy research.

Energy Efficiency, Renewable Energy and The Smart Grid...this is our direction!

As the Senate and the House debate the final version of the Stimulus package....I thought you might find what is currently in the approved Senate Bill with regards to Energy projects.

Besides a whole lot of money....there is a whole lot of opportunity!

Profit!

The time is right...we are going to witness the "RE"transformation of the electrical industry.  Anybody want to jump on board with me, pool our money and buy some stocks?

Solar Stock Update: Upbeat

17 out of 20 are up!The first week of February was favorable to 17 of the 20 solar stocks in this index. A couple of reasons could account for this. Projects planned last year but were postponed until the federal solar tax credit was renewed are now completing contracts. Also, investors might be encouraged from what appears a strong possibility the economic stimulus now being finalized by the Senate includes a 30% cash grant option in lieu of the 30% solar tax credit now in effect. With fewer tax-equity investors (and business owners with lower tax liabilities due to a down economy) the cash grant could jump-start solar projects wouldn't otherwise make financial sense (see story below). We'll know for sure any time now.

Of course, these gains could disappear in a day next week but any good news is worth savoring this winter.

Don't be Fearful!

In these tough economic times..it is easy to become fearful of the future...However, opportunities are the greatest when times are tough.

We simply attempt to be fearful when others are greedy and to be greedy only when others are fearful.
Warren Buffett

Let's be greedy while  our competitors are fearful!

Good Selling!

NEW Incentives will expand Renewable Energy Projects!

Things keep getting better for Renewable Energy!  The House has passed a Bill as part of the stimulus package to issue rebates instead of tax credits for all renewable energy projects!  This means that instead of getting 30% of the system cost over 8 years...projects will get a rebate check equal to 30% of the system cost within 90 days!

We need to share this news...

NAED..Realizing what we already know!

At the NAED Western Regional Conference last week, the focus of every meeting was either energy efficiency or renewable energy.  They realize the time for electrical distribution to get involved is NOW!  NAED has published an "Executive Summary"regarding the topic..in an effort to convince our competitors to act.  Read the attached link. If we proceed with the plans we are developing..we will be first to market.  We are on the verge of a revolution...let's lead the charge!

Trends for 2009

As we prepare to embark on this Clean Energy journey...realize we are leading the charge.  We are paving a new road in the Southwest that will be followed by others in time.  However, we have the opportunity to be first to market and solidify CED as the innovator and leading electrical distributor in the clean energy market.  Do you believe the folowing trends are true? By acting today...we will lay the groundwork for our future success.

2009 Trends

Non-Green Will Not Survive
We all know this.  The standard for building has changed.  We're talking about building science and improving the way things are done.  With a scarcity of capital for development projects and good workers looking to get paid, the best projects will get done by the best people.  We're in a shakeout and only the strong, smart, and innovative survive.  Which means this: Not only will non-green projects not survive, but the ones that do survive will be green or sustainable or natural or beyond platinum.  You and I are the entrepreneurs of this world, and we must find a way to build / renovate the buildings that people need in a sustainable way.  That's the future, and it's upon us.

Change Leadership Will Thrive
Things were so frothy going into 2008, it's not surprising we're experiencing a reset to reality.  But in this process, it should be remembered, if history bears repeating, that great businesses have their genesis in tough economic times.  With them, authentic and charismatic individuals, like a flock of phoenixes rising from the ashes, will shrug off reality and chase success -- they'll become trusted leaders.  When things are good, everyone can find a modicum of success, but in this economy, the poseurs will be exposed for what they really are.  Although there will be some tough times, now is the time for leaders to stand up and effectively innovate, because "true opportunity appears at the market bottom, not at the top."  While everyone else is getting conservative and worried and immobile, change leaders will use available tools, find the important opportunities, and build necessary businesses.

Everything Will Shift

Get ready for everything to be different.  New jobs will be different and skills will change.  It's time to shift everything.  Shift your mindset, shift your skills, shift your home -- do whatever it takes to stay healthy and happy.  Find a way to retrain yourself with new knowledge and skills.  Find a way to be innovative.  Find a way to pay your debts and not incur any more.  Find a way to educate yourself and be nice.  Just find a way to shift when the necessary time comes.  It will come.

Efficiency & Energy Comes Into Focus
Going forward, incremental investments need to produce measurable results with a positive impact on the bank statement.  If an investment has a long payback horizon or hard-to-quantify benefit, it may not be a priority for the short term future.  Which is why smart upgrades in terms of efficiencies and energy savings might be high on the to do list.  A penny saved is a penny earned.  Plus, some utility companies are willing to work with you to find cost-effective ways to save money.  Why not take them up on that opportunity?  If you can spend a hundred dollars today and know you will save a thousand over the year, won't you make that investment?  I think you will. You should.

What is Clean Energy?

CED is committed to revolutionizing the way the electrical distributor does business. We have combined 3 major sustainability aspects: Energy Efficiency, Greenbuild and Renewable Energy and rolled them into a "Clean Energy" Division.

Today I received the 2009 Winter "GreenRoom" magazine published by TED. The entire magazine outlines the incredible opportunity for the electrical distributor that grasps the potential of the pending Green Revolution. The National Association of Electrical Distributors commissioned a research study regarding the opportunities present today..this was their finding. "Given that the customer benefit propositions for green building and efficiency retrofits are quite strong, companies essentially have two choices: Actively sell into these markets or do nothing and watch someone else reap the rewards"

We choose to to reap the rewards.

Together we will succeed.
